When the clients purchased this mansion, the house needed a lot of work. It had been sitting empty for months and left in disrepair, but the clients only saw its potential. As a couple who love to entertain, they knew this could be there forever home. They decided to renovate in phases and focus on the main living areas before moving in and then completing the secondary rooms. Their main focus was the kitchen. The clients main design request was for glitz and glam while staying true to the classic traditional house.
The original kitchen was a nice size but felt cut off from the rest of the main floor. To open up the space, we removed all the arches to really help connect the main living areas. This helped make the kitchen feel larger and more inviting and helped lay the groundwork for the huge kitchen.
This kitchen design employs form and function but also takes into account aesthetics, every angle has been carefully thought of to enhance the design without distracting from the overall design. One of the best features of the space are the custom gothic mirror mullion doors on the refrigerator, a built-in fridge never looked so beautiful. The custom doors are mirrored though out the kitchen and help bring the wow factor without overdoing the space.
The gothic mullion mirror doors perfectly hide the refrigerator.
One of the biggest changes was moving the cooktop from the island to a wall and switching to a beautiful range with a show stopping metal hood. This became the main focal point and adds the wow factor our client was looking for. The hood is flanked by stacked gothic mirror mullion doors.
The huge 8’x8’ island is painted in a contrasting finish and really helps ground the space and adds more intrigue than if we went with matching cabinet finish and countertops. The island features a prep sink and more seating.
